On October 1, 2006, Scootreno did its second annual Sierra Valley
ride. Except for some wind on the way home, we were
fortunate to have absolutely gorgeous weather. Beautiful scenery,
awesome weather, and an excellent lunch in Graeagle made this one of
the better rides of the season.
The route took us from Reno, and out old North Virginia Street to Red
Rock road where we had to get on the Highway 395 freeway to get over
the hill to Cold Springs. From there we followed the frontage
road to Bordertown and then back on Highway 395 for the short jaunt to
Hallelujah Junction. Finally off the 4-lane, we got on Highway 70
through Chilcoot and turned left at Vinton. It was backroads from
here on: Loyalton, Sierraville, Satley, Calpine, and finally into
Graeagle for lunch at the Millworks. From Graeagle we backtracked
a few miles to take the twisty back way into Portola. Finally
time to head home, we turned-off Highway 70 onto Dyson Road and the
farmlands for a few more miles of traffic-less riding until having to
pick up Highway 49 back into Vinton. By now, the wind was blowing
with a vengance but we headed back to Reno before the next storm hit.
