Annotated Bibliography (100 points)
Due: November 28th, 2005

What is an annotated bibliography?

An Annotated Bibliography can be described as the following: An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.

Where do I start?

  1. Typically you start with a research topic, "false memories in children". In order to find applicable articles you will need to be specific in your question, however not to specific.
  2. It is also suggested that you come up with a question such as "Does False Memories affect School Performance?"

Here is a list of possible topics for your annotated bibliography. You are not confined to the list, however, if you choose a topic that is not on this list please let me know prior to starting your project, so that I may evaluate whether the topic is appropriate for this assignment. Also, if you choose a topic not on this list please make sure it is related to Learning and Memory.

Possible Topics:

  1. Higher-Order Conditioning in Education
  2. False Memories in Children
  3. Working Memory in the Classroom
  4. Neural Network Models
  5. Concept Formation in Adolescents
  6. Iconic Memory
  7. Arousal Theory in Education
  8. Explicit vs. Implicit Memory
  9. Declarative Memory
  10. Know vs. Remember Judgments
  11. Do Rewards Facilitate Learning
  12. Cognitive Dissonance and Learning
  13. Using Self-Efficacy to Improve School Performance
  14. Attribution Theory and Learning

What do I look for, and how do I look for certain articles?

  1. Once you decide on a topic you perform a search via a search engine (e.g., PsychLit, PsychInfo, Eric, Ed Index, Google).
  2. Note: your articles must be from a refereed journal.
  3. Once you have compiled a list of articles you will then summate the articles as suggested.
  4. Next, choose the 5 articles for the Annotated Bibliography and format the paper to APA specifications (see example).
