Intro

The Chinese Student & Scholar Federation (CSSF) is the official organization for Chinese students and scholars at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Since its establishment, CSSF has strived to help its members during their study and stay in Reno. Its purpose is to foster positive communication within the organization as well as promoting cultural exchange between students and scholars from China and those from other countries. We hope, in serving its purposes, CSSF will become an increasingly meaningful factor in its members' professional and cultural experiences here in Reno!

Mission

The mission of the Chinese Student & Scholar Federation (CSSF) is to serve Chinese students and scholars at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) by providing a space where they can obtain and/or exchange necessary information, ideas, and opinions, etc. so that the organization evolves along a healthy way. Meanwhile, it is a window through which people from other cultures can improve their cultural awareness thus understand more about Chinese culture.

Membership

From semester to semester, we have students/scholars coming from all over China. For examples: Beijing, Changsha, Guizhou, Ha'erbin, Hangzhou, Hefei, Jilin, Kunming, Lanzhou, Nanjing, Nantong, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenyang, Suzhou, Taiyuan, Wuhan, Xi'an, Xiamen, and Yueyang, etc.

They study and/or work in many programs and its related centers and institutions. For examples: Accounting, Atmosphere Science, Biochemistry, Business, Civil Engineering, Computer Information System, Computer Science, Counseling & Educational Psychology, Economics, Electronic Engineering, Geology, History, Hydrology, Journalism, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mining Engineering, Music, Nursing, Nutrition, Physics, and Seismology, etc.

Right now the population of Chinese students and scholars on campus is approximately 1/6 of the entire international students on Reno campus. They are studying and/or working in many of the programs, centers, and departments at the University of Nevada, Reno and its related centers/institutions. A number of them have obtained financial aid in forms of assistantship, scholarship, award, grant, and on-campus part-time job.

The organization maintains a listserv chinese at scs.unr.edu on campus for its members to exchange information, ideas, and opinions, etc. Each of our members can obtain an email account from the University for free while they study/work at UNR by going to http://newuser.scs.unr.edu. Membership fee is $ 5 for a semester. CSSF welcome all the Chinese in Reno!
