ACE
High School
Education: Academy for Career Education (ACE) is the only
construction engineering high school in the state, and it helps to
prepare young adults for entering the work force.
Each year, the students from
ACE
High School
build a house in the
Reno
area (from the ground up) and auction it off to raise funds.
Our student chapter hopes to encourage these high school students
to pursue further education at the
University
of
Nevada
. Each month, a few ASCE/AGC
members will travel to ACE to give short lessons about basic engineering
concepts that relate to the high school curriculum.
Habitat for Humanity: Each
year, this non-profit organization builds simple, adequate, affordable
housing for those without shelter. Our
chapter hopes to get involved with one of these projects, and help build
or paint a house for someone less fortunate.
Mount Rose
Career Day: Every spring,
Mount Rose
Elementary School
has a Career Day where they invite many people from the construction
industry to talk to students about their work.
ASCE/AGC members may volunteer to introduce engineering concepts
(such as pulleys or trusses) to elementary school kids.
This will take place at the end of
April
, so check back later for further information.
The University of Nevada Reno ASCE/ AGC Student chapter is
always looking for ways to give back to the community.
