Math 176

    Instructor: Dr. Ted Lambert, tlambert@tmcc.edu
    Office: Vista B111 C, Phone: 673-7053

    Registered Students:

    • Please read "How the class works" below for general guidelines on how this class works.
    • TMCC's Moodle platform: LOGIN HERE--but read items 1-2 below first.
      1. Attention--if your computer is protected with a Norton firewall, you may have trouble logging in to the Moodle site. If you keep getting booted back to the login page, try disabling your firewall protection when you're at the login page and see if that gets you in. If so, you can do one of two things in the future. (1) You can disable your firewall every time you log in to the course--and then not forget to enable it when you exit Moodle! (2) You can follow the instructions at the bottom of this page, http://www.wykes.org/firewalls.html, except that on step 7 you add "www.tmcc.nevada.edu" instead of "www.wykes.org" to allow traffic from Moodle without disabling your firewall. If, after trying the above, you still have trouble logging in, contact me at 673-7053 or at the above e-mail address--OK?
      2. Once you're in the class, read the syllabus carefully if you haven't done so already, then click on "READ THIS FIRST (FAQ of sorts) " to get started with your assignments.

    How the class works:

    • This is an Internet class: there are no lectures to attend, and you only have to be on campus Once during the semester for the final.
    • To gain access to the class, you register yourself on TMCC's Moodle platform (see above). Once you're in Moodle, simply clicking on "Math 176" takes you to the class homepage from which you can access the assignments, the homework, the class bulletin board, etc.
    • There will be both book work and WebWork homework assigned for each section.
    • A bulletin board and chat room allow you to communicate with your classmates and the instructor. If you have problems with the material, you can ask your classmates and/or the instructor for help, or go to the math center.
    • This is not a self-paced class: the final is given on a specific day.
    • To take a class like this, you must be self-disciplined and possess good time-management skills. Check out TMCC's E-learning information page to see if an online class is right for you.
